Educational Plans and the Role of Paraeducators
Class Length: 90 minutes
This presentation explains IEPs and section 504 plans, what should be included in these plans, and how they are developed and implemented. It also explores and discusses the role of paraeducators in the development and implementation of IEPs and section 504 plans, including a review of California Education Code sections that authorize individuals such as paraeducators with special knowledge of the student to participate in IEPs. This presentation is intended to be highly interactive. We will invite participants to offer their experiences and insights and to ask questions during and at the end of the presentation.

Senior Attorney, Disability Rights California
Taymour Ravandi is a senior attorney with Disability Rights California. He represents parents and students at special education meetings and hearings, comments on pending legislation, develops and edits educational manuals, and provides training to parents, students, educators and service providers on special education laws and practices throughout California.
Senior Policy Attorney, Youth Practice Group
Allegra Cira Fischer is a Senior Policy Attorney with the Youth Practice Group at Disability Rights California. She focuses on state legislative advocacy to advance education equity for students with disabilities, school discipline, and securing supportive, community-based mental and behavioral healthcare for youth. Allegra works in partnership with impacted community members to advance positive systemic change and is an active advocate in her local California public school district.
