Our Story
CSEA was formed in 1927 when a determined group of Oakland custodians came together to secure pension benefits for school employees who could not afford to retire. Today, CSEA continues to thrive as a member-run union, democratically controlled by member volunteers in nearly 800 local chapters throughout California.
Member Leadership
CSEA is democratically governed by CSEA members at various levels. These include the Association Board of Directors, 10 Areas, 100 Regions and nearly 800 Chapters throughout the state. In addition, CSEA has 15 Standing Committees with representatives appointed by the Association President.
