Empathetic Foundations: Crafting Trauma-Informed Classrooms for Children

Class Length: 90 minutes

This training is designed to immerse participants in the foundational aspects of trauma-informed educational practices. Trauma has a profound impact on children's development and learning that neccesitates supportive and inclusive learning environments. Participants will explore the essential principles of trauma-informed classrooms, focusing on safety, stability, cultural humility, empowerment, collaboration, and a strengths-based approach. Through interactive presentations, scenario-based activities, and enriching discussions, participants will gain practical knowledge on implementing trauma-sensitive strategies and interventions, fostering positive relationships, and building collaborative and empowering learning spaces.

Dr. Cheryl Williams-Jackson

Dr. Cheryl Williams-Jackson

Dr. Cheryl Williams-Jackson is a distinguished college professor specializing in human services, child development, and psychology. She holds advanced degrees in clinical and educational psychology, underscoring her expertise in child development. She offers her insight as a mental health consultant with Alameda Family Services and conducts nationwide training sessions on childhood mental health and cultural competency building. As a Simms-Mann Fellow at UCLA, she focused on trauma-informed care in education, a subject on which she also served as an advisor for the California Surgeon General's Expert Panel. Dr. Williams-Jackson's dedication to reducing the impact of trauma in educational settings is evident in her ongoing work on mental wellness and equity and inclusion for children and families.
