CalPERS Benefits Basics
Class Length: 90 minutes
This class provides a general overview of your CalPERS Pension 401 (a) Defined Benefit and the choices you have to maximize your retirement security. The class will review information on: Classic versus New Membership, Retirement Types, Your Retirement Calculation, Retirement Payment Options, Power of Attorney, Leaving Your Employer, and On-line Resources. Benefit Basics is our most basic class, and we offer other classes for every step in your career. Continuing to take classes throughout your career reinforces the information you’ve learned and helps you be more prepared for retirement.

Zoraya Van Buren
Zoraya Van Buren is a seasoned retirement professional with over 15 years working in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). She is well versed in public retirement systems in California, survivors, disability and health insurance laws relating to public employee coverage, principles of an actuarial reserve system, laws administered by the Public Employees' Retirement Systems, the principles and purposes of group medical and hospitalization insurance, and laws relating to death and disability benefits. She helps people navigate the retirement process through one-on-one retirement appointments, webinars, and workshops. Her personal goal is to provide members with the necessary information and tools, so they can make educated retirement decisions for themselves and their families.
