Judge blocks Trump’s funding freeze as California leaders warn of huge fallout
President Donald Trump’s executive order that freezes federal aid would have gone into effect Tuesday at 5 p.m. EST, but it was blocked by a federal judge.
If the courts ultimately allow the order to stand, the fallout in California could be staggering: The state received $153 billion in federal funds, which is 33.9% of the total state budget, according to the California Budget and Policy Center. Nearly $116 billion of that supports health and human services for millions of California children, seniors and families with low incomes, according to the center.
