Every year at Conference, members are recognized for their contributions to CSEA, public education and their communities.
Activist of the Year Award
Presented at Conference, the Richard C. Bartlett Activist of the Year Award recognizes members who vigorously advocate in political activities or specific causes important to the mission and goals of CSEA. This year’s recipient is Scott Carson of Moreno Valley Unified Chapter 410.
California Community College Classified Employees of the Year
This award was presented by the California Community Colleges and Chancellor Sonya Christian. Recipients included two CSEA members: Yvette Garcia and Anissa Mitchell.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond honored five CSEA members as the 2024 Classified Employees of the Year: Jason Cheeseman, Joshua Crotts, Isaiah Joiner, Aries Lewis and Sara Sanchez.
CSEA’s Communications Committee recognizes members for their outstanding print and electronic communications. The 2024 Award of Excellence winners will receive their awards at Conference.
Presented at Conference, the Humanitarian of the Year Award is given to a person who reflects a noble desire to improve the lives of CSEA members and/or the community at large. This year’s recipient is Brittney Clark of Newman-Crows Landing Chapter 551.
Life Membership and the CSEA Honor Roll are CSEA’s most prestigious awards. This year, Dale Sorenson of Silver Valley Chapter 374 has been nominated for placement on the Honor Roll for his dedicated leadership in CSEA and lasting legacy in Area F.
CSEA will honor four exceptional members as its 2024 CSEA Members of the Year: Sandra Clark, Estibaliz Diaz, Erik Duane, and Irenea Herrera. Each recipient will be presented their award along with a video tribute at Conference.
CSEA’s Membership Unity Program (MUP) helps chapters increase strength and unity by providing training and motivation for chapter activists. Each year, a chapter is selected as the MUP Prize winner and honored at Conference.
Recognizing Excellence and Classified Heroes (REACH) Award
John Sullivan of La Mesa-Spring Valley Chapter 419, was selected as a recipient of the national 2024 Recognizing Excellence and Classified Heroes (REACH) Award. He received his award at a ceremony in Washington D.C. earlier this year.
Presented at Conference, The Victory Club Circle of Stars Award recognizes the outstanding effort chapters make to increase enrollment in the CSEA Victory Club.
Presented at Conference, the Laurence Twoaxe Unity Award is given to a person who continues the legacy of uniting classified employees and noble desire to improve the lives of CSEA members and/or the community. This year’s recipient is April Celestino of Monterey - JC Crumpton Chapter 93.
Since 1983, the Walter H. Blice Award, also known as the Wally Award, has been given every year at Conference to a CSEA member/political activist in recognition for outstanding political service on behalf of CSEA.
