What is an Alternate Area Director (AAD)?
The Alternate Area Director, Area K is the Area's democratically-elected alternate to the Area Director (AD). The Alternate Area K Director is elected by all CSEA members in San Diego and Imperial Counties for a two-year term each odd-numbered year (as opposed to the Area K Director elected in the even-numbered years). If, when notified by the state Association’s President (AP) that the Area Director is unable to perform the duties of the office, the AAD will attend meetings of the Association’s Board of Directors, Annual Conference, and perform other requirements of the office of Area Director. If the Area K Director position becomes vacant, the AAD becomes the Area K Director for the remainder of the unexpired term.
At the direction of the AD, the AAD assists in the work of the Area, including:
- the planning and coordination of leadership training and/or other educational seminars
- facilitating problem-solving for individual chapters
- installation of chapter officers
and such other activities as may be deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors and placed in Association Policy.
Unless explicitly stated in Constitution & Bylaws or Policy, the AAD has no responsibilities, duties, authority, or ability to resolve any issue unless the AD or AP has given direction or consent to do so. The AAD is a volunteer position, with both release time given and expenses reimbursed while incurred on official CSEA business only if authorized by the AD or AP.
