Recruiting a new Personnel Commissioner for San Mateo COE

Apply here by March 24, 2025: https://bit.ly/887pcapp.

Who is the Ideal Personnel Commissioner?

The activities and the decisions of the Personnel Commission (PC) are equally as important as negotiations. These decisions affect our job descriptions, how we are hired or promoted into positions, and ultimately our classified work. The PC addresses issues not present in your Chapter’s collective bargaining agreement (CBA) or are not within the scope of negotiations under the Educational Employment Relations Act (EERA). It is important, therefore, to select an impartial Commissioner who aligns with the goals of both CSEA and the merit system.

The ideal Chapter-appointed Personnel Commissioner is:
  • A member of the public who is eligible to vote in San Mateo County
  • Believes in justice, the spirit of the law, fairness, equity, and transparency
  • Knows Chapter 887 contract or is willing to learn it
  • Has adequate time and energy to perform the duties of a commissioner and ensure the PC office is functioning correctly
  • Willing to learn the ideals of the merit system and defend it from being misused for the unethical gain of the school district or individual employees
  • Interested in the welfare of classified employees
  • A good communicator who can listen to the needs of classified employees
  • An advocate for our members, students, and community
