Miguel Arellano Appointed Legislative Committee Area K Representative

Meet Miguel Arellano
March 15, 2025

Say “hello and congrats” to Miguel Arellano, Area K’s new representative on CSEA’s Legislative Committee! The Association President appointed Miguel on Friday, March 6 following a vacancy due to the previous appointee leaving classified employment for a position with SEIU as an organizer.

Miguel comes with both a wealth of knowledge and a passion for political action. Having been Region 97’s PAC for the last 4 years, Miguel is no stranger to CSEA’s advocacy locally and in Sacramento. He is also the de facto representative for CSEA on the Central Labor Council, or CLC (San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council) as a Board Member through the delegation of his home Chapter, San Diego Paraeducators Chapter 759.

“Politics impact many areas of classified employees’ lives," said Miguel, who is part of the CLC’s political endorsement process for candidates running for local office in San Diego and Imperial Counties. "When we elect labor-friendly politicians and hold them accountable, we successfully advocate for benefits such as the summer assistance program [CSESAP], among many other impactful programs and legislation. I am excited to help represent all of you in Sacramento.”

Miguel has held several Chapter-level positions, including Treasurer, Communications Officer, and most recently 1st VP. He currently serves as the Chapter’s Chief Union Steward. Miguel is a Paraeducator Independence Facilitator (PIF) with the San Diego Unified School District.

Miguel joins one of the most powerful state Standing Committees in CSEA, which will soon be providing recommendations for Legislative Resolutions for the upcoming Annual Conference, and he will also be participating in Lobby Days in Sacramento to directly interact with our elected legislators in Sacramento. The Legislative Committee’s purpose is to study the legislative needs of the Association or local chapters, initiate and promote legislative measures that are in the best interest of the members of the Association, labor, and/or educational systems (provided the Board of Directors shall approve such measures) and shall also study proposed legislation which affects the members of the Association, labor, and/or educational systems. Under the direction of the Association President, the Committee shall exert its influence toward the passage or defeat of such legislative proposals.
