CSEA Endorses Troy Johnson for CalPERS 2025
Troy Johnson is CSEA's 2024 endorsed candidate for the Member-At-Large (otherwise known as "All Member Representative") seat in the CalPERS 2025 Board of Administration election. The CSEA Board of Directors unanimously endorsed Troy at its Saturday, December 14 meeting, upon the recommendation of CSEA's Political Action for Classified Employees (PACE) Committee.
"I was deeply honored and humbled to receive the recommendation for endorsement of CSEA’s PACE Committee and the ultimate endorsement by the Board of Directors in my candidacy for the CalPERS Board Member at Large seat," said Troy, who is currently the Area K Director since 2022. "Your confidence in my ability to serve our members is both inspiring and motivating, and I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your support."
Troy is a lifelong resident of the City of San Diego. He served for several years as Chapter President of Sweetwater OTBS Chapter 471, Chairperson of the Research & Negotiations Committee, Alternate Area K Director, and Regional Representative for Area K's largest Region, 97. Being Chapter President in California's largest high school district covering South San Diego County has given him a unique perspective in considering diverse voices and protecting the dignity of students and working people. Troy also serves as the Board liaison to CSEA's Retiree Unit Executive Board (RUEB), being involved in training events, listening to the needs of retirees, and gaining a detailed perspective of the transition from active membership to retiree. As Area Director of one of CSEA's most diverse Areas, and having served in Sweetwater Union High School District's Special Services (special education) as its Senior Administrative Assistant, Troy is especially qualified to help protect our hard-earned pensions.
"Throughout my career, I have demonstrated the ability to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. I am committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and understanding, where all voices are heard, and decisions are made with thoughtful consideration of their impact. I also take pride in my ability to explain complex situations in ways that are clear and relatable. Behind every policy, investment decision, or actuarial number is a person who depends on CalPERS to help secure their future. I will never lose sight of the human stories that drive our mission."
CSEA was founded in 1927 on the issue of retirement security. In honoring that long tradition, Area K's members are proud to congratulate our very own Troy Johnson as our next CalPERS Board of Administration Member-At-Large and will vigorously campaign for his seat, along with the rest of classified professionals and CSEA staff across California.
Signature gathering for Troy's qualification to running for office and more information about Troy's campaign will be shared by CSEA in the next few months. Voting for the CalPERS Board of Administration will be available by mail, phone, or online ballot later in 2025.
