February 2025: The Prez Sez
Hello Fellow CSEA Members,
My name is Angelica (Angie) Gutierrez and I am the Acting President of our chapter. For
those that know me, I hope this letter helps you know me better and, for
those that don’t, I’d like to introduce myself to you.
I’ve been working for the district for almost 9 years now and have learned so much in that time. I started at Dana Hills High School (go Dolphins!) as a Secretary I, went on to become an Academic
Advisor, and then found my way to TIS. It’s crazy to think of all I’ve learned and experienced since I started with the school district. The time has certainly flown by!
From the moment I was hired by CUSD, I joined CSEA. It was a no-brainer to me because my mom was a teacher in the district, first at Las Palmas and then at Palisades, and she had always been a member of her union. Advocating for her rights and the rights of her colleagues was a value she instilled in me since I went to Las Palmas (I got major bragging rights for being able to eat my lunch in her classroom). I grew up in this district, loving and appreciating the dedication to education and a brighter future from the classified and certificated staff around me, and I see that dedication persists in every person I work with today.
I have benefited greatly from the dedication of our union, especially, in the form of promotion opportunities, raises that have been negotiated and the knowledge I have gained about my rights as an employee. In addition, I have applied for and been granted scholarships by the union that have helped me financially while I’m in school. The positive effect CSEA has had on my life is why I chose to become more involved and hold the position I do today. I sincerely hope to extend this positivity to all our members. Together, we can make a difference! I look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Angie Gutierrez
